Brief Description Dr Klaus-Dieter Liss holds an ANSTO Senior Research Fellowship and leads the scientific project "Modern Diffraction Methods Applied to Thermo Mechanical Processes in Materials Science".
His main tools for investigation are neutron and synchrotron X-ray techniques. He received his PhD in Physics at the beginning of 1995 from the RWTH Aachen in Germany, which has been prepared at the Institut Laue Langevin.
After one year of postdoc, he was offered a scientist position at the High-Energy Beamline ID15A at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility for which he became responsible
From 2001 on, he applied his knowledge in the field of materials research at the GKSS, DESY and TUHH before joining the Bragg Institute in May 2004.
In the first three years at ANSTO he led the project for the construction of the ECHIDNA high resolution powder diffractometer.
